What is the difference between boost and buck transformer?


A boost transformer and a buck transformer are both types of transformers that are used to change the voltage of an AC power supply.

However, their functions are opposite; a boost transformer is used to increase the voltage of an AC power supply, while a buck transformer is used to decrease the voltage of an AC power supply. Both boost and buck transformers have a primary winding and a secondary winding.

The primary winding is connected to the input voltage, and the secondary winding is connected to the output voltage.

In a boost transformer, the secondary winding has more turns than the primary winding, which results in a higher output voltage than the input voltage; and in a buck transformer, the secondary winding has fewer turns than the primary winding, which results in a lower output voltage than the input voltage.

Boost transformers are commonly used in electronic circuits and power systems where a higher voltage is required, and buck transformers are commonly used in power distribution systems to step down the voltage for use in homes and businesses.
